Namwera says, “Thank you” celebrates the impact a remarkable Canadian named Kamala-Jean Gopies has had on a small village in southern Malawi, Africa.  Under her leadership, Namwera has been transformed into a self-sufficient community with a thriving economy.  Gopie thanks Happy Chimwembe Mussa, a young citizen of Namwera and the generous donors of The People Bridge Charitbale Foundation for helping to make such a significant difference in the lives of so many people.


Celebrate Friendship Day 2019 in Richmond Hill

Tues., July 30th, 2019–(2:30pm – 4:30pm).  Richmond Hill Friendship Day celebration at La Rocca’s Creative Kitchen.  1285 Elgin Mills Rd. E., unit #5.  Friends of all ages can decorate cookies, enjoy exquisite desserts, participate in arts & crafts, face painting and meet children’s authors/illustrators Daniela Bevacqua and Josephine Vaccaro-Chang.

Those attending the event are encouraged to donate gently used children’s books.  Sunwing Airlines has generously offered to deliver the books to the children of BluesBoy Foundation, a United Nations accredited charity based in Jamaica.

Declutter by giving us your extra books.

We collect books and send them to those in need.  Most recently we shipped books to Malawi, Florida, Cambodia and Trinidad & Tobago.  We also have a shipment ready for kindergarten students in the British Virgin Islands.

I am thrilled that my artwork will be featured in Richmond Hill’s 2018 Studio Art Tour. To promote the tour I will be doing a demonstration at The Richmond Hill Central Library (south/west corner of Yonge St. & Major Mackenzie Rd. W.) on Fri., Sept. 28th from 2pm – 5pm. I am currently working on a collection of 11 mosaics based on the characters in my books titled, “We Are Colourful Friends” and “Our Colourful Cookies”. The Richvale Lions Club sponsors four FREE interactive literary workshops for York Region primary students.  Enter today for a chance to win!

Richmond Hill, ON – November 8th, 2017 — Thanks to the financial support provided by the Richvale Lions Club, four York Region primary schools will enjoy the interactive educational literary workshops created by Dance in the Rain Publishing for FREE.

Dance in the Rain Publishing offers five one-hour workshops, based on the books, “We Are Colourful Friends” and “Our Colourful Cookies.”  Workshop sessions uniquely bridge art, literacy, mathematics, technology and publishing.  The author-lead presentations are sure to delight both student and teacher.

“I feel fortunate to have the support of the Richvale Lions Club.  The club’s commitment to children’s literacy continues to inspire me to create fun and engaging activities for children,” said author/illustrator Josephine Vaccaro-Chang.

Hugh Adams, President of the Richvale Lions Club, stated that, “The International Lions consider children’s literacy a priority.  We are very pleased to partner with Josephine and her “colourful friends” to do something locally.”

How to qualify for the FREE workshops

  • Are you an elementary school within York Region? If yes, you qualify!
  • To enter, simply forward your school name and preferred workshop via e-mail to the author/illustrator
  • All entries must be received by November 30th, 2017
  • Check your e-mail inbox on December 4th, 2017 to see if your class is the lucky winner!

For three years running, the Lions Club has made it possible for Dance In The Rain Publishing to offer copies of their books for free or at reduced prices. About the Richvale Lions Club

Since 1963, the Richvale Lions Club has a history of service in Richmond Hill.  Over the years, the club has sponsored and supported many projects in the community including hospitals, schools and parks. While vision care awareness is a cornerstone of the Lions community, the organization champions other causes such as diabetes awareness, cancer research and children’s literacy.

She is the author and illustrator of “We Are Colourful Friends” and co-author/illustrator of “Our Colourful Cookies.”  Her favourite colour is purple and she likes to do arts and crafts.  Josephine holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Toronto and is a certified Teacher of English as a Second Language.

Author/Illustrator Josephine Vaccaro-Chang reading Our Colourful Cookies at The Richmond Hill Central Library from 1pm – 2pm on Sat., Sept. 30th, 2017.  Presentation suitable for children 3 – 6 years old.  Participants will help re-tell the story using props, make paper cookies and even take home a recipe to bake cookies at home.
